Haider Cup 2019 Recap
By Kamil Roowala
Year: 2019
Host City: Orlando (Innisbrook Resort, Palm Harbor, FL)
Winner: Team USA
It was a Haider Cup for the ages, with the final matches navigating their way through the famous “Snake Pit” of the Copper Head course, with Team USA and Canada looking on from just beyond 18 green. It was a closely contested tournament, with tight matches throughout. But in the end, it was a hard-earned victory for Team USA.
Like every Haider Cup, there were just as many great story lines off the course as there were on. This year, we had the honor of being joined again by future PGA Tour Pro, Zahid (Ziggy) Nathu. Fresh off a Collegiate Championship Win, and just a few weeks away from his professional debut at the Vancouver Open, Zahid made room on his schedule to join us one more time at Haider Cup. What an honor it’ll be for us all to watch him tee it up with the pros!
This year Haider Cup teamed up with Naseeha, a non-profit organization that provides mental health services, including a peer support helpline to listen to and be there for youth experiencing personal challenges. Kudos to Muhsin Kermalli, Head of Fundraising at Naseeha, for the great presentation that opened our eyes to the criticality of their work and the impact they are having. Alhamdullilah, through Haider Cup this year, we were able to raise over $18,000 (USD) to help ensure every call made to Naseeha is answered. Thank you to everyone that donated!
A special thank you to the organizing committee from Orlando. They did an incredible job setting up this years’ Haider Cup. Everything from the food to the schedule was meticulously planned and well executed.
With another great Haider Cup in the books, can’t wait to see you all next year in L.A. for the 20th Anniversary!
